hooray!

Whitney and I just went over to the Kenya National Theatre which is right next to campus. We walked in to the theater and there were all these little preschoolers rehearsing for a little red riding hood/three little pigs play. It was adorable. So we sat and watched that for a while. Then I went and talked to a guy about taking djembe lessons. I got him to agree to give me 5 one hour lessons a week for only 1,000 shillings, which is about $12. I am also buying the drum and a case for 9,000. I am so excited!! I start tomorrow morning at 9:30am.

  3. Don't drum too loud at 9:30 in the morning. I'm a light sleeper, and that'll be 2:30 am for me.

So this morning I thought I'd try to pretend that I'm where you are. I woke up, gulped down half a bottle of cough syrup, threw a bucket of water over my head, looked in the mirror and said, "Looking good, Stella!" and then walked to the bus stop through a huge dust cloud. Got to the bus stop and was promptly pushed off of three buses before I finally hitched a ride in a miniature clown car driven by a Shriner. I got out before he crossed into Belmont and spent the rest of the day in a Starbucks, sending telepathic messages to your mama to come get me. So far, my telepathic messages haven't reached her, but the cough syrup gave me some excellent hallucinations. So it's all good.

Not as good, though, as reading your posts. Rock on, sunshine drummer!

    Jumbo jambo love,
    Joy

  4. Oh, one more thing. Here are two wacky phraseologies that were said to me this week at work, both of them by people for whom English is their ONLY language.

    1) "This way, we'll be able to take care of things at the drop of an eye." Oookaayyy. EWWWW.

    2) "That's going to be a very big hockey stick for him to climb up." Huh?

  5. Loving your blog! Found you on Google Earth so the kids can where you are. Can't wait to hear the drumming and have you teach TM&C a new language. Keep having these great adventures and know we are watching (reading) you everyday!
